Twice a Week…all the latest yacht concepts – by Adrien Jousset
The AJ 42 Match is the fruit of an intense research on what the best match racing boat should be. “It has been really interesting to work closely with Neal Pawson as his experience on the water, TP52, RC44… was a real bonus to develop this project. Also working closely with a lot of people of the industry, builders, sail makers, rigger… help us producing what we think is close to be the best.” says Adrien.
The design is free from any rating rules and the objective was to produce a pure One Design/Match Racer. It is an innovative modern design that allows for easy and inexpensive transportation anywhere.
Fitting in a 40 feet container, thanks to her removable stern and split mast the AJ 42 Match has the ability to be easily shipped to any venue. It has a specially designed canting trailer and a simple keel to hull attachment. The boat is stiff with a high aspect ratio fin keel and torpedo lead bulb. She is drafting 1.7 meters, able to be raced in the shallow water venues too. Performances are achieved with a modern 48 square meters top square main sail to be trimmed with standard shackles instead of winches for practicality….
When Alen Yacht introduced their Metaphor 68 at the Cannes Boat Show over a year ago it was the styling star of the show. The dramatic sweeping style developed by Victory Design set new standards in motor yacht styling. Now Victory Design has repeated the style in a magnificent 108 footer that not only looks fantastic but also has performance to match.
Depending on the power options selected the Metaphor 108 can reach speeds of 50 knots making it one of the fastest motor yachts of this size on the water. For this performance the 108 has a quadruple diesel engine installation but this can be reduced to two or three engines if more modest performance is required. The top speed provides the excitement but the Metaphor 108 offers a lot more with one of the most flexible machinery installations available.
In developing the advanced hull design, which is based on the deep-vee concept, Victory has allowed this yacht to operate effectively and economically at any speed between 5 and 50 knots. Combined with the diesel engines is a pair of electric motors that allow the yacht to operate in full hybrid mode under electric power alone. This means that an owner has the choice of silent cruising at low speeds combined with the excitement of operating close to the limits of superyacht performance. The engines are coupled to Flexidrive surface propulsion units that are produced by Victory Design, which are designed to operate effectively over a wide range of speeds.
Inside, those sweeping windows make the saloon look like an open space with a 360° view and there is an opening sun roof to add to the open air feeling. The generous saloon space allows for up to 20 guests to be seated and close to this number can be served dinner at the tables. The galley that prepares the food in located down below with direct access to the high quality crew quarters where each crew member has his own cabin with ensuite bathroom.
For guests there are four staterooms, with the master suite including a mini-gym and a spa as well as a full width bedroom. The specification allows an owner to fully customise the interior décor using Alen Yacht’s high standard of craftsmanship.
The Metaphor 108 is one of the most exciting motor yachts available today combining fabulous styling with a very flexible machinery installation that combines everything an owner might require
Wally yachts has brought a design revolution in the superyacht industry with its futuristic Wally Island design that has diminished the boundaries between the interiors and exteriors of the yacht with the sea. The latest in the island superyacht is the Climate Explorer Yacht (PCE53) by Virginia-based yacht design and engineering specialist Donald L. Blount and Associates. The 53m PCE53 Explorer concept is inspired by land-based architecture of tropical and subtropical regions, by merging the interiors with the exteriors with its structured layout. The design aims to minimize the “number” of compartments by removing the structure that separates them, for a lot of open area. The yacht features a bi-level lofted owner suite, an outdoor kitchen/bar area (in addition to a more traditional galley), two aft-facing cabana style VIP staterooms overlooking the swim platform and the highlight includes four fold-down sections of bulwark that provide 80 square meters of decks overhanging the water. We would love to see this moving island turn real soon!
At the Boot Dusseldorf 2011 Absolute will present the 13.35 m Absolute 43 Fly. The new yacht features sports and elegant lines, large glass windows and a spacious flybridge.
As soon as you get on board, you are immediately caught by the elegance of the furnished hall on the upper deck, with its large sofa and a piece of furniture with the TV-set, while the broad windows emphasize the furniture sober lines.
The piloting console with digital panels is clear evidence of the technology Absolute installed on the boat equipment.
Comfort is the key word for the 43 Fly. Below deck there are two guest cabins and the owner’s suite.
In the wake of the Absolute philosophy concerning energy savings and state-of-the-art technology, the boat is being equipped with 2 Volvo Penta IPS500 or IPS600 engines.

The France which became the Norway knew an un paralalled destiny which elicited both deep emotion and rancor. Many sought to save it by transforming it into a hotel, a casino… but would it have actually been saved ?
Today it is gone. However, The France’s legend remains intact and it will always be remembered in our memories, in our hearts as a fabulous paquebot.
And now, like a seed planted, the “nose” of the France (the BOW) came back to Paris. This last piece was able to be saved from demolition and installed at the Port de Grenelle.
From that seed, a new ship is beginning to grow.
The time has come to offer France a new jewel of the sea, an exceptional ship that is modern, different and in the same lineage of refined luxury of those ancient cruise liners of yore.
The new cruiseliner France will be the ambassador of the « French exception », a messenger of the « French touch ».
The new ship France will have its own style and will be more adapted to world competition. The 240m long vessel will provide accommodation for less then 500 passengers. It is far less then the ships of the similar size can accommodate.
A long hull of the France cruising ship will receive two chimney-shaped super-structures in honor of the old France: each will house spacious living areas, restaurants and salons dedicated to well-being and relaxation.
Between these two chimneys, a tropical palm-tree garden will spread over 1,500 square meters, as if a cruise on the France were an island vacation.
The France will also be a «green» ship, she will consume less energy and the shape of her berth will allow precise control of the energy used for navigation.
The construction of the France cruise liner will begin in 2012.

The most popular size for the Owner that wishes to combine an enjoyable and competitive choice of racing, with the comforts of luxury cruising, is the 100′ range. It is presently populated by a broad cross-section of designs and philosophies, and INFINITI Yachts are set to astonish this group with the unparalleled performance of their 100 S. Not only do its VPP figures show blistering pace around the race circuit, but this is complemented by massive improvements caused by the DSS foil to the ‘ride’. INFINITI Yachts heel significantly less than their competitors, and pitch is severely dampened. That means that finally cruising at speed has become comfortable.
Additionally there is an all out racing version of this yacht, the ‘100 Turbo’. The expected performance figures are shocking.
INFINITI Yachts and the DSS technology have produced a stunning project which will revolutionise the performance and comfort of the larger yacht sector. This 150′ design weighs less and produces more than any of its rivals. A visually appealing and futuristic design is coupled with the proven performance credentials of INFINITI Yachts. This represents a massive step up in what can be offered to a prospective Owner in this size range.
